Fun fact: Seedless watermelons are NOT genetically modified to be seedless. The process is similar to how you get a mule - you cross-breed a donkey with a horse. In this case it had something to do with cross-breeding a male and female watermelon with something yadda yadda science stuff.

The way they defined this taste test was all over the place. The rating rules were just plain confusing. To rate rotten watermelon a 7 and watermelon flavored toothpaste a 3, but say they both taste like watermelon was just cray. 🤣 Rotten watermelon flavor shouldn’t be a 7. I’d take watermelon flavored toothpaste all day everyday.

I think why its so hard to make watermelon products actually taste like watermelon especially for artificially flavored products is because natural watermelon, although quite sweet, has a subtle flavor to it and I think if its 100% natural flavor profile were to be used in products, it wouldn't be a strong enough flavor.

If you let watermelon get very overripe, to the point where it’s pretty gross, then you’ll actually taste that watermelon candy flavor. There’s just no way of mimicking fresh watermelon.
